Out & About

Mar de Luz is set in the Barrocal, the central zone between the coast and the Serra do Caldeirãos range bordering the Alentejo. The area is known for its charming hamlets, classical Portuguese architecture, and old quintas. The countryside showcases fragrant orange groves and spectacular almond blossoms, fig, carob and wild olive trees.
Less than an hour's drive west of Mar de Luz, lies some of the world's most rugged and dramatic coastline with its sandstone rock formations, cliffs and breathtaking ocean views. To the east lies the intricate system of lagoons, sandbanks and wetlands that form the Ria Formosa National Park, an ecological wonder, famous for its bird watching and sea life. The central beaches, just 20 minutes away, offer miles of powder white sand and shallow, calm waters, perfect for the idyllic seaside day.
For decades generations of golfers have flocked to the Algarve for its world renowned golf courses. More recently visitors come for the vast array of other outdoors sports and seaside activities enticed by the temperate climate and guaranteed 300 sunshine days a year.
